Balance is a complex system involving input from the eyes, ears, brain and neck. Issues with any one of these structures can make a person feel dizzy or off-balance. Many patients may experience some form of dizziness over their lifetime, and finding the cause of their dizziness may be quite complicated.
Dizziness assessment involves taking a thorough history and examination looking at the most common causes of dizziness. It may involve the referral for specialised vestibular testing where eye movements are analysed while putting the balance system under certain stressors. This can help narrow down the cause of a particular patient’s dizziness or vertigo.
Dr Hodge can offer a comprehensive vertigo assessment as well as referral for vestibular testing and imaging as required. Once the cause is decided upon she can discuss treatment options.
